Cadillac Enters Luxury Electric Vehicle Game with 2023 Lyriq
Cadillac is entering the luxury electric vehicle (EV) market with the 2023 Lyriq crossover SUV. This streamlined and forward-thinking car is a true crossover as from one angle it looks like a sedan and from another it looks like an SUV. No matter what it looks like, it offers Cadillac's true luxury both inside and out.
Overview
The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq is an uncompromising electric SUV. The start of a bright future for Cadillac, the Lyriq allows drivers to move forward to a greater purpose and with the intent to reduce their carbon footprint. Designed from the ground up, the Lyriq will ride on GM's new scalable battery architecture which features a low centre of gravity and a spacious cabin environment. The Lyriq will debut in Fall 2022.
Models and Pricing
Cadillac has not yet announced the 2023 Lyriq's full lineup, but it will have a starting price of $67,698, and there will most likely be three or four trim levels from which drivers can choose.
Performance
With truly thrilling performance, the Lyriq offers a sporty, responsive, and agile drive that you will never want to end. The Lyriq comes standard in rear-wheel drive, offering 340 horsepower, 325 lb-ft of torque, and a 100.4 kWh battery capacity. There will also be an all-wheel drive option that adds a second motor.
Driving Range
Cadillac built the 2023 Lyriq with the ability to challenge other EVs. For this reason, the Lyriq is estimated to get a greater than 480km all-electric driving range on a full charge.
The Lyriq will feature at-home Level 2 (AC) charge rates up to 19.2kW and DC fast charging rates of up to 190kW. This means on 240-volt at-home charging, the Lyriq will add up to 83km of range per hour of charge, and that DC fast charging will add up to 122km of range in 10 minutes of charging time.
Exterior
Cadillac has taken a dramatic approach to the 2023 Lyriq, shaping the car with the rhythms, shapes, and colours of the natural world blended with a modern appeal. Outside, this approach comes together in dramatic fashion. The Lyriq does away with the traditional grille and instead features a Black Crystal Shield for dramatic detail.
Interior
Inside, the modern luxury continues. Drivers are able to become one with the car thanks to the 33-inch advanced LED display that artfully curves toward the driver in a single, continuous screen. Instead of having a separate digital cluster and infotainment system, Cadillac combines them into one giant display across the dashboard.
While the concept vehicle featured four seats, the 2023 Lyriq offers room for five with two front passenger seats and a standard bench seat in the rear. The dedicated EV-architecture that it was built on allows for a more open and air cabin environment.
Safety
The Cadillac Smart System is a set of safety and driver assistance technology that instills confidence in drivers and provides peace of mind when out on the road. This comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, safety alert seat, rear park assist, rear seat reminder, adaptive cruise control, blind zone steering assist, and more. In total, more than 20 driver-assist features are included standard on the 2023 Lyriq.
