2023 Sierra 2500

GMC’s Sierra 2500 HD is a versatile beast. The entry-level Pro at $53,703 features a capable 6.6L V8 engine delivering 401 horsepower (hp) and 464 lb-ft of torque via GMC’s heavy-duty (HD) 6-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. The SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali trims add many practical and technical features to this reliable workhorse.

Sierra 2500 HD highlights

Horsepower and Torque

The standard gasoline V8 is powerful, but if you need more, the Duramax 6.6L diesel V8 generates an impressive 445 hp and a staggering 910 lb-ft of torque, capable of towing 18,500 Lbs. The Duramax comes with a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission.

Interior

Roomy is an understatement for the interior of this truck. We could easily hold weekly office meetings in the crew cab version. Seriously though, the Sierra 2500 offers a lot of head space, elbow room and leg room for the driver and all passengers, back and front. The cab also has plenty of storage space front and rear, including dual glove compartments and a deep center console.

Technology

The standard infotainment system, displayed on a 7” colour touchscreen, provides Bluetooth connectivity, Android and Apple support and USB ports. Standard safety tech includes the Stabilitrak stability control system, Proactive Roll Avoidance, traction control, electronic trailer sway control, hill start assist, a tire-pressure monitoring system and a rearview camera.

All the above are standard on the entry-level Pro model and up. Additional comfort and safety features are added to the other trim levels.

Which trim is for you?

SLE starts at $59,003 for the rear-wheel drive (RWD) and $62,503 for the all-wheel drive (AWD). Among other features, this trim level adds additional airbags and Hitch Guidance, a truck-trailer alignment guide.

SLT, $71.003 RWD/$74,503 AWD, adds a touch of luxury with perforated leather heated seats. These come with 10-way programmable power adjustments. You’ll find additional USB ports and other comfort and convenience features at this level.

On the outside, we liked the puddle lamps and GMC MultiPro tailgate that is standard with the SLT trim.

If you plan to take your Sierra 2500 off-road regularly, we think you might like the AT4 trim level. This trim comes only with AWD and starts at $79,603.

The AT4’s solid go-anywhere cred starts with all-terrain tires as standard and continues through Hill Descent Control, Skid Plates, Off-Road suspension and twin-tube Rancho shocks to the ProGrade Trailering System.

Additional tech at this level includes cruise control, steering wheel controls and full-programmable driver presets for seat and mirror positions.

Topping the range is the Denali trim level. AWD only, the Denali trim starts at $87,003.

Upgrades at this level include Front and Rear Park Assist, Lane Change Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking and several other safety features.

We loved the premium audio system standard for this trim, a seven-speaker Bose sound system with Richbass woofer. The interior features every comfort and convenience you can think of and probably a few you can’t.

All trim levels come in regular, double and crew cab models.
